Favorite Skylander Design Of Each Element
I know that in my recent update post, I said that I would be releasing a ranking of the Kaos final boss fights today, but after thinking about it some more, I realized that for that kind of list, I would need a proper rating system and I don't have that (yet). As a replacement, let's talk about skylander designs. I know that many people factor the design of a skylander into their overall rating (a skylander with a 5/5 moveset would only get a 4/5 because they don't like their design), but I tend not to because it doesn't affect their overall gameplay. However, that doesn't mean that I don't have an appreciation for skylander designs. While there are definitely designs that I like more than others, there isn't a single design that I dislike. That's mainly because to me, each design has it's own unique features. With that being said, this was a bit of a tough list to make, but I managed to put something, so let's take a look at the designs that stood out to me the most.
Magic: Trap Shadow
When looking through each of the magic skylanders, Trap Shadow's design stands out to me because of how cool it looks. The transparent bear trap is very interesting, along with his purple fur with the blue stripes. He also has two daggers strapped to his back that really help to emphasize that he's not a skylander that you should mess with.
Life: High Five
One word: dragonfly. I'll be honest, when I first heard about a dragonfly, the thought of a dragon with fly wings was pretty funny. However, the design that the people at Toys For Bob gave to High Five takes this misconception to a completely different level by making him a dragon with dragonfly wings. The addition of the daredevil helmet with the number 5 on it is a nice bonus.
Air: Air Strike
Air Strike on his own is already pretty interesting in terms of his design. He has a pretty cool outfit, especially with the large feather on his head and his goatee, but outside of that, his design isn't anything special. That changes when you factor in Birdie. The concept of a little dude and a giant eagle in one character is what saves the design for me.
Dark: Knight Mare
All five of the dark skylanders have amazing designs, but it actually wasn't too hard to choose my pick for this element. Say what you will about Knight Mare, but her design is absolutely amazing. A centaur is already a very intimidating creature and she takes full advantage of that with her dark color scheme and interesting array of weapons.
Light: Knight Light
Again, there are only five light skylanders to chose from, but unlike the dark element, there's only one design that I would be okay with calling amazing. Knight Light has a very angelic design. His color scheme is mostly white, but his traptanium scimitar and massive angel wings make his design one of the most visually appealing.
Undead: Eye-Brawl
When I first saw Eye-Brawl, I found his design to be pretty off-putting. I mean, he's a headless giant with a giant eyeball for a head. Over the years, however, I've grown to appreciate how unique his design is. Even though his twin brother Dive-Clops is the same species as him, it's same to say that Eye-Brawl's design is one of a kind.
Tech: Spy Rise
For starters, the idea of a spy skylander sounds amazing, but what really makes Spy Rise's design work is that he's a robot spider spy. His design is further amplified by any gadgets that he may be hiding as well as his four spider legs. Add in his awesome and unique color scheme (consisting of gold, purple, and green) and you have an unforgettable design to go with an already amazing skylander.
Earth: Smash Hit
I am aware that quite a few people were disappointed by Smash Hit, but while his moveset is a bit mixed, his design is a very interesting one. I really like how he's this small marsupial that doesn't even look that strong, yet he's carrying this giant wrecking ball on a chain. Despite all of that, he is also one of the toughest and most powerful members of the supercharger team. Talk about a subversion of expectations.
Water: Echo
The water dragon design was something that had already been done with Zap, but Echo makes it fresh by having an appearance similar to that of a seahorse. Seahorses are possibly the most unique creatures in the ocean, so to have be a seahorse-like dragon really makes Echo stand out. I can also appreciate her multiple punk accessories as well as her headphones that look like shells.
Fire: Spitfire
I originally had Hot Dog in this spot, mostly due to his cuteness factor, but while he is cute, his design isn't the most interesting outside of that. With Spitfire, his design has the awesome blue fire coursing through his body (including his fingers, wings, and tail) as well as his amazing purple and red color scheme. Vicarious Visions couldn't have picked a cooler looking skylander to lead the Superchargers, which is actually pretty ironic considering his element.
